The
Ice Eater is designed to prevent ice from forming around
boats, marinas, docks, and piers as well as effectively
melting existing ice by breaking the surface with a continuous
current of warmer bottom water.
Ice
Eater's propeller draws up warmer subsurface water and deflects
it to the surface creating a constant circulation of warmer
water that prevents ice formation.
Above shows Grand Island, NE customer's dock using the Ice
Eater de-icing system. Keeps water open for the avid hunter.
Ice Eater
will melt existing ice. Unlike other de-icing units, Ice
Eater requires no additional hardware in order to obtain
the desired de-icing patern. Ice Eater is shipped complete
with suspension lines. It can be taken out of the box, hung
in place and plugged in.
Ice
Eater may be hung from a pier or boat. Two to three feet
is the average operating depth.
Design
Features
The
design of the Ice Eater's venturi shroud (housing) with
outwardly flared ends draws warmer water from greater depths
than other conventional de-icers.
The
shroud is submersible below the surface either vertically
or angled from vertical. A set of mounting holes at opposed
positions on the flange allows the lines to be attached.

Chris
Peterson and Jason Randolph, Waterfowl Hunters, and owners
of Central Flyways Best. www.springsnowgoose.com
If you want to hunt snows, these are your guides, 970-379-1374
or
435-901-3825.
Here Chris Peterson prepares to cut an opening in the ice
to lower the ice eater through. Using a chainsaw, you may
have to cross cut a few times to be able to get that first
block of ice out of the hole. This ice is upwords of 20"
thick.
After the first block of ice is removed it is time to expand
the hole by cutting a larger area with the chainsaw. Here
Chris & Jason work to get the 2nd piece of ice removed
from the hole.
Now that the hole has been opened it is ready to install your
ice eater. Here is the Hotwoods All Aluminum Ice Eater Stand
made to work with our ice eaters. This unit has adjustments
on it to get the set just right for your situation.
Always tie your power cord to one of the aluminum legs with
a plastic tie to insure it will not become intangled in the
prop.
Set the ice eater in the hole cut out and you are almost ready
for action.
Everything is in place. We had previuosly checked the water
depth here and knew where we needed the ice eater to be set
on the stand. This water was around 5 feet deep.
After you have set the ice eater make sure your tie off ropes
are in place before starting. When you come back hours later
to check your ice the whole area could be open and your tie
ropes out in the lake and impossible to get to if this is
not done before starting.
In 6-7 minutes as hard as it is to believe the ice was starting
to settle around our opening. This was happening because of
the void we had created under the ice by pushing water up
on the top of the frozen lake. In just hours this whole area
will be open and ready to attract waterfowl.
Here Chris hides the Honda generator along the shore in the
brush. This will be used to run the ice eater to keep the
lake open.
